Australian Universities Industrial Association (1985 - 1990)

Function: Employer (Peak Body)
Formed in 1985, the Australian Universities Industrial Association represented the interests of universities in the industrial arena. Operating for just five years, the Association merged with the Australian Advanced Education Industrial Association in 1990 to form the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association so as to better cope with the turbulent climate of the times. Indeed, following the turbulence of the Dawkins reforms in the late 1980s, during which time many universities and colleges amalgamated, it was felt that a new, united employer body was needed to best represent the interests of the institutions constructed from the old system.
