Summary

Although the Electrical Trades Union of Australia was first formed in 1919, many of its founding members had arrived from the recently deregistered Federated Electrical Trades Union of Australia which had originally been established in 1912. While being particularly associated with government power ventures, members have been employed in diverse areas of industry. In 1993 the union amalgamated with the Plumbers and Gasfitters Employees' Union of Australia and became the Electrical Electronic Plumbing and Allied Workers Union of Australia. Another amalgamation in 1994 with the Communication Workers' Union of Australia resulted in the formation of the Communications Electrical Electronic Energy Information Postal Plumbing & Allied Services Union of Australia.
