| Registered federally in 1943, the Primary Producers' Council of Australia changed names in 1949 to become the National Farmers' Union of Australia. In 1969 the National Farmers' Union of Australia merged with the Australian Primary Producers' Union to form the Australian Farmers' Federation. In 1979 the Australian Farmers' Federation amalgamated with the Australian Wheatgrowers' Federation, the Australian Wool & Meat Producers' Federation, Australian Vegetable Growers' Association, the Australian Woolgrowers' & Graziers' Council, Australian Seed Producers' Federation, the Cattlemens' Union of Australia and the Australian National Cattlemens' Council to form the National Farmers' Federation.
