Summary
It is believed that Victorian Silk Hatters' Society was formed about the year 1886 and operated until about 1894. It is known, however, that this union was a predecessor to the Federated Felt Hatting Employees' Union of Australasia which was formed in 1912. By 1950, this Union was renamed as the Federated Felt Hatting & Allied Trade Employees' Union of Australia.
In 1984, the Federated Felt Hatting & Allied Trade Employees' Union of Australia became part of the Australian Textile Workers' Union. Operating until 1992 the Amalgamated Footwear & Textile Workers' Union of Australia eventually merged with the Clothing & Allied Trades Union of Australia to become the Textile Clothing & Footwear Union of Australia.
