Heggen, Robert Gibson

Robert Heggen began his employment at Metal Manufactures Ltd in the mining town of Port Kembla in 1936. He joined the Federated Ironworkers' Association [FIA] which was then attempting to break the hegemony of the Australian Workers' Union as the representative of labour in the Works. From 1938 until his retirement in 1965, he was a Works' Delegate for the FIA.
