Boards of Conciliation (1894 - 1920?)

South Australia

Function: Regulatory Body
Location: South Australia
Industrial arbitration in South Australia was inaugurated in 1894 by the establishment of Boards of Conciliation. ‘A Bill to Facilitate the Settlement of Industrial Disputes’ was introduced in State Parliament in 1890. It was, however, four years before a modified version setting up Boards of Conciliation was enacted.

The South Australian Industrial Code of 1920 superseded the functions of the Boards of Conciliation with the establishment of an Industrial Court, a Board of Industry and industrial boards.
