Newcastle Steelworks Lockout (1943)

Location: Newcastle, New South Wales
On 15th December 1943, BHP Ltd began to retrench employees at its Newcastle Steelworks. On the 18th the company ignored an order from the New South Wales Industrial Commission to re-employ the retrenched workers and commenced a lockout.
