Summary
John Verran was born in Cornwall and arrived in Australia a year later, settling in South Australia. Verran began working in mines at the age of ten and was President of the Amalgamated Miners’ Association from 1895 to 1913. Entering the House of Assembly as a Labor candidate in 1901, Verran became Premier of South Australia in 1910 and lost the leadership almost two years later. He died in 1932.
