Storey, John (1869 - 1921)

Born: 1869  Shoalhaven, New South Wales.  Died: 1921.
Born in Shoalhaven, New South Wales Storey moved to Sydney when he was age six and was apprenticed as a boilermaker at age fourteen. He was a prominent member of the United Boilermakers and Iron Shipbuilders of New South Wales and joined the Labor Party in 1891. He entered state politics in 1901 winning the seat of Balmain North, losing the newly-formed seat of Balmain in 1904 and regaining it in 1907. Storey took over the Labor leadership in 1917 and led the party to victory in 1920 but died not long afterwards in 1921.
