The Foremens' Association operated exclusively until 1991, although it underwent a number of name changes up until this time: In 1946 it was registered as the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia, Commonwealth Public Service; in 1975 it became the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia (Australian Public Service); and in 1989 it was changed to the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia. In 1991 it amalgamated with the United Sales Representatives & Commercial Travellers' Guild of Australia and the National Union of Storeworkers Packers Rubber & Allied Workers to form the powerful National Union of Workers.
