| Helen Robertson, a Governor of the Homeopathic Hospital in 1902, founded the Tailoresses' Union in 1880. Mrs. Robertson was a leader of the 1882 Tailoresses' strike, the first women's strike, which successully prevented clothing manufacturers reducing the wages of already poorly paid workers and led to a Parliamentary Inquiry into "sweated" labour. |
