Conciliation Committees (1969 - )

Commonwealth

Function: Regulatory Body
Since January 1969, Conciliation Committees may be established by the Industrial Commission for particular industries or callings. Previously they were appointed by the Minister on the recommendation of the commission. These Committees comprise a Conciliation Commissioner (as chairman) and an equal number of representatives of employers and employees. A Committee has power to inquire into industrial matters in its particular industries or callings and, on reference or application, to make orders or awards prescribing rates of wages and other conditions of employment for the industries or callings.
