Industrial Court of Queensland (1917 - )

Function: Regulatory Body
Location: Queensland
The Industrial Court of Queensland was established in 1917 and was the sole industrial tribunal in the State until May 1961 when The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act was enacted. The Industrial Court has, as President, a judge of the Supreme Court who, sitting alone, constitutes the Court, excepting in those cases where jurisdiction is conferred on the Full Industrial Court. The Full Court consists of the President and two Commissioners of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act of 1961 provided the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Commission with powers to carry out most of the arbitral functions of the Industrial Court, as previously constituted. The Industrial Court, itself, was preserved but with altered functions and structure. It is now largely judicial in character.
