Summary
Formed in 1987, the Australian Advanced Education Industrial Association represented the interests of institutions in the higher education sector. Operating for just three years, the Association merged with the Australian Universities Industrial Association in 1990 to form the Australian Higher Education Industrial Association so as to better cope with the turbulent climate of the times. Indeed, following the turbulence of the Dawkins reforms in the late 1980s, during which time many universities and colleges amalgamated, it was felt that a new, united employer body was needed to best represent the interests of the institutions constructed from the old system.
