Summary
The union known as the Australian Federated Theatrical Employees' Association formed on both a state and national basis in the decade after Federation and eventually evolved to cover theatrical and cinematic employees, outdoor sports ground staff and many in the television industry. Originally known as the Australian Federated Stage Employees' Association in 1910 the union changed its name in 1912 to the Australian Federated Theatrical Employees' Association and again in 1914 to the Federated Theatrical & Amusement Employees' Association before finally settling with the Australian Theatrical & Amusement Employees' Association in 1915 which was to last 78 years. In 1992 it amalgamated with the Australian Journalists' Association and the Actors' and Announcers' Equity Association to form the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
