Summary
The Australian Foremen Stevedores' Association was registered under the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Act, in 1941 and developed from the Sydney Foremen Stevedores' Association, a union that had been in existence since 1914. In 1991 it amalgamated with the Waterside Workers' Federation and both continued to be known as the Waterside Workers' Federation until 1993 when this union amalgamated with the Seamen's Union of Australia to become the Maritime Union of Australia.
