Summary
Formed originally in 1942 as the Australian Shipping Officers' Association, the union changed names in 1988 to the Australian Shipping & Travel Officers' Association. By February 1993 the 3,200 members of the Australian Shipping and Travel Officers' Association (ASTOA) voted to amalgamate with the Australian Municipal Transport Energy Water Ports Community & Information Services Union, otherwise known as the Australian Services Union [ASU].
