Summary
With links as far back as the mid-nineteenth century in the metal working and engineering industry, the Automotive Metals & Engineering Union came about through the amalgamation of the Metals & Engineering Workers' Union and the Vehicle Builders Employees' Federation of Australia in 1993. A year later, in 1994, the Confectionery Workers' & Food Preservers' Union of Australia merged with this metal and engineering based union to form the Automotive Food Metals & Engineering Union.
