Summary
The Electrical Electronic Plumbing & Allied Workers' Union of Australia was established in 1993 as a result of a merger between the Electrical Trades Union of Australia and the Plumbers' & Gasfitters' Employees' Union of Australia. The origins of this union, however, can be traced to about 1912 when the Australian Plumbers' & Gasfitters' Employees' Union and the Federated Electrical Trades Union of Australia (many of its members joined the ranks of the Electrical Trades Union of Australia in 1919 when it was deregistered.) were established. In 1928 the Australian Plumbers' & Gasfitters' Employees' Union changed names slightly to become the Plumbers' & Gasfitters' Employees' Union of Australia. After the 1993 merger, the Electrical Electronic Plumbing & Allied Workers' Union of Australia merged once more in 1994, this time with the Communication Workers' Union of Australia to become the Communications Electrical Electronic Energy Information Postal Plumbing & Allied Services Union of Australia.
