Summary
The Federated Mining Employees' Association of Australia began life as the Amalgamated Mining Employees' Association of Victoria and Tasmania which was registered under the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Act on the 29th July 1909 . Its name was changed to the Federated Mining Employees' Association of Australia on 9 August 1912. The Association was briefly deregistered between 16 June and 10 August 1914. Registered again as the Federated Mining Employees' Association the union was deregistered once more in 1918, its' members eventually adopting the Australian Workers' Union.
