Summary
Established in October 1906 and registered in 1908 as the Federated Candle Soap Soda & Starch Employees' Union of Australia, this union remained, throughout its many incarnations, small in membership but tended to concentrate in wide and disparate areas of grocers' sundries and non-edible groceries manufacture. In 1914 the union changed names to become the Manufacturing Grocers' Employees' Federation of Australia. An attempt was made during the 1920s to form a NSW branch of this new union to accompany the existing Victorian and South Australian Branches. However, the Australian Workers' Union strongly opposed any such endeavours. In 1988 the union formed the Federated Millers & Manufacturing Grocers' Employees' Association of Australasia with the Federated Millers & Mill Employees' Association. In 1992 this union became part of the National Union of Workers.
