Summary
The Federated State School Teachers' Association was formed in Sydney in January 1921. The Association obtained federal registration as an industrial union on 13 May 1924. In 1929 the Australian High Court found that teaching was not an industry as defined by the Commonwealth Conciliation & Arbitration Act. The Federated State School Teachers' Association ceased to function in 1930 and was superseded by the Australian Teachers' Union, a body with different objects and constitution. On 6 March 1950 the defunct FSSTA was deregistered.
