The Motor Transport & Chauffeurs Association was first registered in 1912 and operated until 1979, although representatives of this union met in 1925 with representatives of the Federated Carters' & Drivers' Industrial Union and the Trolley Draymen & Carters Union to help form the Amalgamated Road Transport Workers' Union of Australia, a precursor to todays' Transport Workers' Union of Australia [TWU].
In 1979 the Motor Transport & Chauffeurs Association was reregistered without a change of name and continued serving its members until 1987 when it amalgamated into its creation, the TWU.
