Summary
Edward Yule Lowry was active in trade unionism and labour politics in Townsville and surrounding districts. He arrived in Australia in 1866 as acrew member aboard the "Sultana". Lowry helped organise wharf labourers in Townsville in 1887 and travelled widely across Northern Queensland promoting the labour movement and the principles of the eight-hour day. Twice a parliamentary candidate, Lowry died in November 1898.
