Summary
On 14 January 1884 the Victorian based United Furniture Trade Society and the United Furnishing Eight Hours League amalgamated to form the United Furniture Trade Society.
In 1909 New South Wales, Victorian, South Australian and Queensland furnishing unions amalgamated to form the Federated Furnishing Trade Societies of Australasia. In September of that year it was registered under the Commonwealth Conciliation & Arbitration Act. In 1914 the title was changed slightly to the Federated Furnishing Trade Society of Australia. Operating as such until 1993, the Society amalgamated with the Federated Brick Tile & Pottery Industrial Union of Australia, the Operative Painters' & Decorators' Union of Australia into the Construction Forestry Mining & Energy Union.
