| Function: Trade Union (Federal) | |||
| Formed in 1946, the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia, Commonwealth Public Service originated as the Commonwealth Foremens' Association which was believed to have formed as early as 1912, although it wasn't registered federally until 1920. The Foremens' Association operated exclusively until 1991, although it underwent a number of name changes up until this time: In 1946 it was registered as the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia, Commonwealth Public Service; in 1975 it became the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia, Australian Public Service; and in 1989 it was changed to the Commonwealth Foremens' Association of Australia. In 1991 it amalgamated with the United Sales Representatives & Commercial Travellers' Guild of Australia and the National Union of Storeworkers Packers Rubber & Allied Workers to form the powerful National Union of Workers. See "online sources" for a pedigree chart of this entity. |
