| A union concentrated in mines, factories and power plants, the Federated Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association of Australasia has a long history dating back to local engine drivers’ unions on Australian goldfields. The union, however, was not registered federally until 1908 and in its initial guise lasted until 1949 when it was deregistered. Forming again a year later in 1950 under the same name, the union continued to function until it was amalgamated with the Construction Forestry & Mining Employees’ Union and the Operative Plasterers' & Plaster Workers’ Federation of Australia in 1992 to form the Construction Forestry Mining & Energy Union.
