Northern Territory Teachers Federation (1976 - 1991)

Related EntriesOnline Sources
Function: Trade Union (Federal)
Like the ACT Teachers' Federation [ACTTF], the Northern Territory Teachers' Federation [NTTF] did not belong to the Australian Teachers' Federation / Australian Teachers' Union until the late 1980s when the idea of a single federal union was gaining ground. A special conference of the Australian Teachers' Union [ATU] approved the amalgamation of the ATU and ACTTF and NTTF in March 1990. At a secret ballot in early 1991, members of both unions voted overwhelmingly for amalgamation. The two territory teacher unions were dissolved and became the first two branches of the ATU in August 1991.
