South Australian Chamber of Manufactures Incorporated (1869 - 1972)

Function: Employer (Peak Body)
In 1869, the South Australian Chamber of Manufactures was formed as a lobby and support group for the State's manufacturers. After numerous efforts at rationalising representative structures for the State's business community, the Adelaide Chamber of Commerce and the South Australian Chamber of Manufactures merged in 1972 to form the Chamber of Commerce and Industry SA Inc. Finally on 1 November 1993, rationalisation was complete with the merger of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the South Australian Employers' Federation to form the South Australian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. The repositioning culminated in the launch on 29 May 2000 of Business SA, a new name and a new image for the State's leading business and employer group.
