Born: 26 February 1949  Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Born in 1949, Simon Crean has been the member for the federal electorate of Hotham since 1990 and has held various ministerial portfolios since then. Prior to joining politics, Crean was Junior Vice-President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions [ACTU] from 1981 to 1983, Senior Vice-President of the ACTU from 1983 to 1985 and President from 1985 to 1990. Crean also held the positions of Assistant General Secretary, then General Secretary of the Federated Storemen and Packers' Union from 1976 to 1985. Simon Crean is currently leader of the Australian Labor Party.
