Boyer, Sir Richard James Fildes (1891 - 1961)

Born: 1891  Taree, New South Wales, Australia.  Died: 1961.
Sir Richard Boyer was born on the 24th August 1891 at Taree, New South Wales. Having served and been wounded on the Western Front in the First World War, Boyer returned to Queensland and abandoning the Methodist ministry, bought property near Morven, Queensland. After initial hardships Boyer became one of the area's more successful graziers. During the period between 1941-1944 Boyer was President of the United Graziers' Association of Queensland and during 1942, President of the Graziers' Federal Council of Australia. Eventually moving from his property in Queensland to Sydney to develop other interests. By 1945 Boyer had become chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Boyer retained this position until he died on the 5th June 1961. He was scheduled to retire on the 30th June.
