A union organising workers in wool and skin stores along Australia's east coast, the Amalgamated Fellmongers' Woolsorters' & Woolscourers' Union of Australia was registered federally in 1912. By the end of the First World War, in 1918, the Union had changed names to become the Wool and Basil Workers' Federation of Australia. The Wool & Basil Workers' Federation operated virtually unchanged for another fifty eight years when, in 1976, it was amalgamated into the Australian Workers' Union.
