Summary
The Customs Officers' Association of Australia, Fourth Division [COA] is a registered trade union as defined by the Commonwealth of Australia Workplace Relations Act of 1997. The COA was established in 1949 to represent the industrial interests of Australian Customs Officers working on community protection, compliance, revenue collection, facilitation and related duties throughout Australia.
The Customs Officers' Association of Australia, Fourth Division began as the Fourth Division Officers' Association of the Trade & Customs Department of Australia which was formed in 1915. Reregistered in 1925 as the Fourth Division Officers' Association of the Trade & Customs Department of Australia, this union continued in this guise until 1949. The COA remains one of the few independent workplace-specific trade unions at a national level in Australia.
