| Formed as the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation Technical Association in 1958, the Association had its origins in the Association of Assistants of the Commonwealth & Industrial Research Organisation which was formed six years previously. Operating for another 30 years the union reregistered in 1988 as the CSIRO Technical Association before amalgamating with the CSIRO Officers' Association in 1992 to form the CSIRO Staff Association. However, a year later the Association had merged into the Public Sector Union which is currently formally known as the CPSU, the Community & Public Sector Union.
